Dr. Sullivan has spent over 31 years in education, and has been Director of Pupil Personnel at South Fayette School District since the 2001-2002 school year. Prior to joining our team, she was a special education master teacher, Instructor and Coordinator of Generations Together at the University of Pittsburgh, Supervisor of Falk Laboratory School at the University of Pittsburgh, Educational Researcher and Principal Investigator at the University of Pittsburgh and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Director of Special Education and Transition Coordinator. Dr. Sullivan spent seven summers working in Greece, China, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Australia, and New Zealand where she conducted research at their universities and worked with teachers and administrators within their schools.
Dr. Sullivan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Franciscan University of Steubenville, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Dayton, a Doctorate in Education /Special Education from the University of Pittsburgh and an Executive Certificate of Advanced Leadership/Superintendent ‘s Letter of Eligibility from Duquesne University.
Dr. Sullivan taught a graduate class for five years for the University
of
Pittsburgh from 2005-2009. The graduate class was through the Department of
Instruction and Learning entitled, “Instructional
Practices in Special
Education” as part of the Supervisor of Special Education certification
program.
Dr. Sullivan has published professional journal articles and has most recently published a book through Greenwood Publishing Company in Westport, Connecticut in September of 2004. The book is entitled, “Surviving Childhood Leukemia: Walking with a Shadow”. It is being marketed in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Sullivan has served on numerous committees over her 31 years of service in the field of education. However, she has served on the following professional committees: Chair of the South Hills Area School District Association since 2001-2006, Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Special Education Director’s Steering Committee for all of the 42 districts in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Chair of South Fayette School District’s Employee Wellness Initiative Committee, Administrative participant on the South Fayette School District’s Strategic Planning Committee. Currently, she has agreed to serve as the administrator on the “South Fayette Foundation” in memory of her colleague and friend, Dr. Mary Ravita.
She has been honored with numerous awards for her contributions to the field of education during her tenure in education. The awards bestowed upon her are as follows: East Central Ohio Special Education Regional Resource Center Outstanding Special Educator Award, the Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Special Educator State of Ohio Award, Ohio Teacher of the Year Finalist, the Donald D. Hammill Foundation Research Award, Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award from the University of Pittsburgh, and the 2005, and the Fr. Columbo Devlin Education Award from Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Lastly, Dr. Sullivan is also a professional member of the following organizations: Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators, Pennsylvania Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Council for Exceptional Children and Council for Exceptional Children: Pennsylvania Federation, Council for Exceptional Children International Education Division, and Council for Exceptional Children Administration Division.
