Section I: Athletes

  1. As an athlete, participating in the strength and conditioning program is not a right, but a privilege. Any disciplinary actions implemented by your coach shall be carried over into the weight room (i.e. suspensions, academic performance, etc.)
  2. Before beginning any training program you must complete the following:
    • Read and sign a UPMC waiver/liability form which must be signed by both student athlete and parents.
    • Have a Body Map Fitness Assessment completed
    • Bring any health concerns attention to the staff immediately (strength coach, school nurse, and athletic trainer)
  3. Any athlete not having proper attire (shoes, shirts, shorts, etc.) will not be permitted to train that day. NO EXCEPTIONS, NO EXCUSES!!!
  4. All athletes must be ON TIME for workouts and FOCUSED on the program the strength coach has prepared for you.
  5. All workouts provided must be followed as written by the strength coach. DO NOT TRY TO DO YOUR OWN THING. It will only slow your athletic development.
  6. When you start your workout be sure to do the following steps:
    a. Warm up (jump rope, medicine ball warm up, foam roller stretch, dynamic stretches, etc.)
    b. Proceed to the workout on the inside wall of the weight room in regards to the sport in which you are training
    c. Follow the workout in order. DO NOT JUMP AROUND. It is in that order for a reason.
    d. See the strength coach for your daily inner core workout.
    e. You must do a proper cool down (stretching) to conclude your workout.
  7. You must do your part to help keep the weight room clean, dust, sweep, whatever deemed necessary by the strength coach.
  8. No attitudes will be tolerated in the weight room.
  9. Weight training is a constant learning process so feel free to ask questions at any time, however, the strength coach has final say on all exercises and training techniques.
  10. Being CONSISTENT in your training is one of the major keys to becoming a better athlete. Being INCONSISTENT WILL NOT make you a better athlete.
  11. Keep your social life out of the weight room. You are here to learn how to prepare for your athletic event.

Section II: Coaches

  1. Coaches are expected to communicate between the strength coach and their athletes in regards to training times (team times, individual times, schedule changes, cancellations)
  2. Any questions in regards to the training program should be immediately addressed with the strength coach.
  3. Should the strength coach be absent the head coach or an assistant must immediately contact the athletic director for permission to use the training facility.
  4. In absence of the strength coach and the team is permitted to use the weight room a coach must be present to supervise their team and make sure the training program is followed as the strength coach left it.
  5. Coaches must be able to follow all emergency procedures.
  6. It is the coach’s responsibility to get their players into the weight room, the strength coach is more than willing to be flexible to meet each individuals athletic needs. In order for your athletes to get the maximum benefits out of strength and conditioning it is imperative they get to every scheduled training session.

  4. Should an emergency occur please follow the procedure list on next to the phone.
  5. Activate by sending someone for help
  6. Call 911
  7. Begin CPR if necessary
  8. Make sure the area is cleared for emergency personnel to arrive without any obstruction.
