Learn More about Act 1
and how this "tax shifting" legislation
could impact
our community.
On May 15, the School Board is required by law to place a referendum question on the ballot for the community to decide on the proposed tax shift. Act 1 requires all school boards to place a referendum question on the May 2007 ballot requiring a vote on either increasing their earned income tax (EIT) or replacing it with a personal income tax (PIT)
to fund the required property tax reductions outlined in the law.
The Board approved the following ballot question:
“Do you favor imposing an additional 0.9 % earned income tax? The revenue generated from the increased tax rate will be used to reduce taxes on qualified residential properties by an estimated $610.79. The current school district earned income tax rate is 0.5%.”
A formal public hearing took place on Feb. 7, 2007for the community to comment on the tax shift.
