South Fayette Faculty Nominated for Teacher Excellence Awards

South Fayette Township, PA –  Fourteen staff members from the South Fayette School District have been recognized by our students and parents for their dedication to outstanding education in South Fayette. This year more than 3,000 nominations were received for 83 school districts in 10 southwestern Pennsylvania counties as part of the 2007-2008 Teacher Recognition Program sponsored by the Teacher Excellence Center.

From South Fayette Elementary School, the following teachers were nominated: Ms. Tracy Brandtner, 4th grade; Mrs. Carol Kurchena, Kindergarten; Mrs. Denise Lazzini, Kindergarten; Mrs. Karla Schooley, 1st Grade.

From South Fayette Middle School, the following teachers were nominated: Mr. Jason Iannuzzi, Music; Mr. Frank Kruth, Technology Education; Mrs. Sandi Miller, Social Studies.

From South Fayette High School, the following staff members were nominated: Mr. Tom Fraser, English; Mrs. Christine Lane, guidance counselor; Mr. Jeff McGowan, Science; Mrs. Melissa Meyer, Science; Mrs. Maureen Sirc, Math; Mr. Gary Smith, English; Mr. David Taylor, Math.

These distinguished staff members will now move on to the next step in the judging process.  The nominees will be narrowed down to the top 100 Honorees who will be recognized on stage at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland on Thursday, April 24, 2008. Seven winning teachers from our area will receive a $2,500 grant for their school.
