It is time for high school juniors and seniors to think about enrolling in college courses for the Fall 2008 semester. These courses will earn them high school as well as college credit. The Penn State Beaver, Robert Morris, CCAC, Carlow and Pitt courses are all part of the South Fayette Dual Enrollment Grant and portions of the tuition will be reimbursed to parents and students through this grant. Congratulations to science teacher Dr. Stephanie Gutshall, who was nominated for the Keivin Burns Outstanding High School Science Teacher Award through the Spectroscopy Society.
On Thursday evening, March 13, at 7 p.m., we will hold a Parent Scheduling Information Night in our High School Theatre. At that time, we will discuss course and graduation requirements, provide options for students to customize their curricular programs, and answer any specific questions you may have relative to scheduling or preparing for post-secondary opportunities. The Freshmen Class has been selling beach towels as their class fundraiser. There are only 8 more beach towels available for sale. The velour towels are 30” X 60” and are rated by the towel industry at the low-end of the heavy weight range. SOUTH FAYETTE and LIONS are printed across the towels at the top and bottom in green lettering. There is also a full size green lion in the middle of the towel between the lettering. The cost of a towel is $16 and checks can be made payable to the S.F. Freshmen Class

The newly created MLA Reference manual is the style guide to be used by students of South Fayette School District. It is based on the MLA format for writing and documenting research papers. This style guide is a tool for teachers and students to use for the research process. It highlights the most commonly used ways to document sources. Eleventh grader Gary Fleisner was one of 14 students in the area who were selected to participate in the ASPIRE Program sponsored by Equitable Resources. This two-year program pairs area students with employees who serve as mentors to help students prepare for their post-secondary goals.
2007-2008 marks the beginning of the South Fayette Alumni Association (SFAA). The graduating class of 2008 will mark the 80th anniversary of graduation ceremonies for the district. From Lafayette School’s first graduation class of 13 (on record) to the 156 graduates of the 2007 class of South Fayette High School our alumni roster exceed 6,700+.
