The District’s budget for the 2003-2004 school year
was $24,218,866. In keeping with the Board of School Director’s
pledge not to raise taxes, the millage rate remained 20.29
for the year.
This budget was an increase of 8.6% over the past year
to accommodate the additional costs associated with the
growth of the District. The additional funds were necessary
largely due to growing student enrollment, health care costs,
as well as a 12.2% increase in retirement costs.
The South Fayette School District is an important resource
for our community. Our District continues to attract families
to our community and housing prices meet or far exceed their
assessed value. Together we can provide the best academic
environment, athletic challenges and opportunities for artistic
expressions for the youth in our area.
Transportation
South Fayette’s Transportation Department, under the
direction of Mr. Bill Scott, is responsible for the transportation
of all the students that live in the District – in
2003-2004 approximately 1,870 public school students and
200 private and parochial students. District busses transported
students to 28 different schools within a ten mile limit
of the township border, as required under Pennsylvania State
School Codes.
The District employed 28 bus drivers to do all of our day-to-day
bus runs. We had six substitute bus drivers and four custodians
that maintain a license so they are available when the District
is in need. Also on staff are two mechanics who work staggered
shifts so the garage can be covered during all times when
our busses are on the road. In addition, three aides assist
with special education needs while students are on the bus.
The Transportation Department’s office assistant,
Mrs. Pam Lambert, works with Mr. Scott on scheduling and
keeps track of all the students’ varied day-to-day
schedules.
