In 2003-2004, South Fayette students continued their rich
tradition of providing quality performances for the community.
The fall brought the Fayette Follies with a superhero theme,
and after a winter of rehearsing and honing their skills,
students in all three buildings provided entertaining musicals
for fans of all ages!
Led by Mrs. Mariann Mackey, the High School drama team
filled the theatre for three performances of Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Featuring Tyler Courtad
in the title role, Courtney Markowitz and Greta Mittereder
served as narrators for the compelling tale.
In late February, Mrs. Sharon Lepri and the Middle School
cast of Annie, Jr. showed us that “a hard knock life”
could also be very entertaining. Allison Supko donned the
red curls for the role of Annie, with Amy Dixon as Miss
Hannigan, Genny Sieckowski as Grace Farrell and Ian Scully-Sjeko
as Oliver Warbucks. This was the school’s second full-length
musical. The Elementary students also showed that they were
ready for the spotlight with a performance of Abracadabra,
Aladdin!, featuring Stephen Hasis as the charming and mischievous
Aladdin and Lauren Levenson and the beautiful Princess Jasmine.
The year was also filled with many accomplishment by our
band and choir students. Three students were semi-finalists
for the Governor’s School of the Arts: Nick Brozack
(keyboard), Cara Fornella (dance) and Courtney Markowitz
(theatre arts). As the school year came to a close, we learned
that Nick Brozack was a finalist and attended the Governor’s
School this summer.
Each year, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association
(PMEA) honors students with selection to the District Band
and Chorus. In 2003-2004, Brian Gray, Nick Krobot and Kika
Wright were all select as members of the District Band,
with Wright also being selected as a member of the District
Orchestra and All-State Band. Tom Baker and Michael Talerico
were also honored as members of the PMEA District Chorus.
As the school year began in 2003, there was a new –
but familiar – face leading the legendary Little Green
Machine marching band. Following the retirement of Mr. Clem
Rolin, Mr. Michael Mackey was at the helm. Mackey is a South
Fayette alumnus and Duquesne University graduate. He is
also fulfilling a family legacy – his grandfather,
Dominic Scacchitti, created the Little Green Machine over
56 years ago.
