THE ANGELA VIOLA ZEDRECK SCHOLARSHIP in the amount of $2000 will be presented to a South Fayette H.S. senior who best meets the scholarship criteria. Information and applications are available in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE, and must be submitted by Monday, March 17, 2006 .
THE ASPIRE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM sponsored by Equitable Resources, Inc. awards four $2,500 scholarships to seniors who are currently in the program. These are renewable for up to four years and can total $10,000 each. Information and application information is available in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for submission is March 17, 2006 .
The BLACK ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH HILLS for WOMEN (BASH) will be awarding scholarships to outstanding African-American high school senior women as part of their ongoing recognition program. Interested girls may pick up an application form in the S.F.GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for submitting applications is May 1, 2006 .
THE BEULAH FREY ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP sponsored by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will be awarding $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors on a competitive basis who are applying to a two or four year college or university to further their studies in an environmentally related field and successfully meet the award criteria. Information and application forms are available in the S.F.GUIDANCE OFFICE and must be submitted by March 31, 2006 .
The ROBERT C. BYRD HONORS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (administered by PHEEA) is intended to provide scholardhips to those high school students who demonstrate promise of continued excellence and attend postsecondary institutions. Specific criteria, application information and applications are available in the S.F.GUIDANCE OFFICE. Applications must be received on or before May 1, 2006 to be processed for consideration by PHEAA.
THE JOHN CANNON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is awarded by The Foundation of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The foundation will award one $40,000 and nine $1000 scholarships for a senior planning on pursuing a BA/BS degree in communications with an emphasis on Television, telecommunications, Television, or a related communications field. Scholarships are awarded based upon academic achievement, College Board scores, and creative accomplishments. Selected finalists will be required to submit a portfolio of creative work. The LOLA G. DUFF and WILLIAM H. DUFF II SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, is administered by National City Band to assist All egheny County students of the Protestant faith who are pursuing a full time program leading to a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four year educational institution. Application information is available in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. The application deadline is March 15, 2006 .
The CHARTIERS BUSINES AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S CLUB is once again offering an award for a limited scholarship to two deserving female students in the school districts of the club members. Details regarding expectations and application forms are available in the S.F.GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for submission of applications is April 10, 2006 .
The CONSTANCE ROCKWELL SCHOLARSHIPS sponsored by the Civic Light Opera Guild of Pittsburgh provides awards to area high school seniors who wish to further their education in the Performing or Technical Arts. The student’s specific talent, financial need, scholastic ability and school & community project involvement will be considered in granting these awards. Additional information and application materials are available in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. Applications must be received by March 27, 2006 .
CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY offers several academic scholarships to incoming freshman. The scholarships are designed to recognize and reward outstanding academic, artistic and personal achievement. Financial need is not a requirement. These scholarships are renewable for eight semesters of undergraduate education (10 for architecture students). Please stop in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE if you are applying to Carnegie Mellon University and wish further information about this scholarship program.
CONTINENTAL BUILDING SYSTEMS CHARITIES FUND SCHOLARSHIP Graduating senors from the Pittsburgh and/or Columbus, Ohio, area who meet the selection criteria for this award and will be considered based on financial need, academics and character. Further information, guidelines and application form are available in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for application submission is May 31, 2006 .
The DEVON SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM is offered to three high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare industry. Awardees will be selected on the basis of a submitted essay, financial need, personal and professional/academic references, community and school activity involvement and academic performance. Additional information and application materials may be obtained in the S.F.GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for applications is April 7, 2006 .
ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION 2007 MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP: The B.P.O.E offers scholarships awarded both on the national and state level ranging from a national four year grant of $60,000 to 62 state wide one time grants of $1,200. Students must complete an application, essay, provide an official transcript and SAT/ACT scores, provide two letters of recommendation, and exhibit achievement in either academics, leadership, athletics, dramatics, community service or other activities. Applications must be filed to the Carnegie Elks Lodge 831, P.O. Box 638, Carnegie, PA15106 by January 12, 2007. THE HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. In order to be eligible for the scholarship awards ranging from $2,500 - $20,000, students must plan to enroll and pursue a bachelor’s degree in the fall of 2007, have a minimum GPA of 2.0, be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, and exhibit critical financial need ($50,000 or lower adjusted gross family income). THE MELVILLE ALEXANDER EBERHARDT MEMORIAL FUND awarded by the Pittsburgh Foundation. This scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Allegheny County and plan to attend an accredited two or four year college or university. Students must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and complete an application including a 500 word essay discussing the impact the student wishes to make to society though his/her career goals and how the selected major will be the vehicle to drive that impact to fruition. The EPILEPSY FOUNDATION OF WESTERN/CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM offers five $1,000 scholarships for students of this area who suffer from epilepsy or seizure disorder. Awards will be based on the quality of the student’s application determined through a competitive scoring system that balances need with achievement. Eligible students should stop in the S.F.GUIDANCE OFFICE for applications which must be submitted no later than March 31, 2006 .
FUTURE CHEF OF AMERICA HIGH SCHOOL CULINARY SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION sponsored by the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute is offering several scholarships toward tuition at PCI. The competition is in two phases, and the first phase – the application/essay phase must be submitted by March 17, 2006 . Stop in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE for information and application materials.
IRON WORKERS JOINT APPRENTICESHIP AND JOURNEYMAN RETRAINING COMMITTEE: Opportunities for high school seniors to apply for apprenticeship programs for ironworkers. Interested students need to apply in person at the Ironworkers Local #3, 2315 Liberty Ave, Pittsburgh, Monday through Friday, year round, by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling (412) 471-4535. Applicants must pass an aptitude and physical test to be successful candidates for apprenticeship.
NATIONAL KOMEN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: offered to qualifying area students who have lost a parent to breast cancer. Awards of up to a total of $10,000 over a 4 year period. Applications must be received no later than November 1. Applications and information available at www.komen.org
2006 MASONIC ORGANIZATION SCHOLARSHIPS Many scholarships, grants and loan opportunities are available through the Masonic groups and the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation. Information and deadlines related to these awards is available in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. Deadlines for submission of applications for these awards vary and interested students should consult the materials available for specific dates.
2006 MIND, HEART, AND SPIRIT AWARDS: Presented by the Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network and Duquesne University . Nominations are provided by school personel to recognized outstanding senior students who excel both as athletes and as scholars and serve as role models to their fellow students by providing service as volunteers. Grand Prize winner is awarded a $26,000 scholarship to Duquesne University .
KIDS’ CHANCE OF PA, INC. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The Pennsylvania School Board s Association Insurance Trust provides college and vocational school scholarship grants to children of Pennsylvania workers who have been killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident resulting in financial need. Students interested in obtaining information regarding this program may stop in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. Applications and supporting information are due by April 15, 2006 .
THE LANDMARKS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD The purpose of this scholarship is to reward at least on senior high school student in All egheny County who is interested in the history, architecture, and/or landscape design of the Pittsburgh region and who will be a full-time college student in the fall of 2006. Since the program’s inception, nineteen graduating seniors from area high schools have been awarded scholarships in the amount of $4,000 each to colleges of their choice. For further information and applications stop in the S.F GUIDANCE OFFICE. The application deadline is April 21, 2006 .
NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM awards eight scholarships for a total of $45,000 to graduating seniors to assist them in financing their education at a four year institution of their choice. These scholarships are provided on a competitive basis to reward students who have demonstrated scholastic achievement and are not based on financial need. The EUGENE AND NELL PETRICCI FUND SCHOLARSHIP In partnership with the Pittsburgh Foundation six South Fayette High School seniors will be awarded to students planning on attending a non-profit college/university or accredited career/technical school. There will be one award of $1,471 and five awards of $1,000 each. Interested students should stop in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE to obtain information and applications which must be submitted by May 9, 2006 .
The PHEAA ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROGRAM is intended to reward students with both high academic potential and demonstrated financial need. The program will benefit Pennsylvania State Grant recipients who apply to participate in the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program and meet the Byrd qualifications, but are not selected to receive the scholarship. Students must submit a completed application for the federal Byrd Program in order to be considered for an AES award. Please stop in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE for additional information. The Byrd application must be received no later than May 1, 2006 .
THE PITTSBURGH FOUNDATION: Comptaro, Elden, Lewis, and Sparks Scholarship FundsThese funds were created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships to All egheny County high school seniors who plan to attend college or an accredited career or technical school located in the U.S. This award is based on financial need. Further information and application materials regarding this program may be obtained in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for submission of applications is March 13, 2006 .
THE PITTSBURGH FOUNDATION: Oliver L. Johnson & William A Lester Families Fund This fund was created at the Pittsburgh Foundation to provide educational opportunities for black African and African-American young women and men committed to pursuing formal education beyond high school. Applicants must have been a resident of one of the western Pennsylvania counties for one year prior to applying and plan to attend a two or four year accredited college or technical school. Further requirements may be reviewed and applications obtained in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for submission of applications is April 1, 2006 .
THE PITTSBURGH FOUNDATION: William J. Wolf Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students residing in All egheny County , who are of the Lutheran denomination. This scholarship, for up to $5000 per year and based in part on financial need, may not exceed a total of four years for any one student. Further information and application materials may be obtained in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for submission of applications is March 10, 2006 .
THE PITTSBURGH FOUNDATION: Irene S and Harry Louik College Scholarship Fund This fund was established at the Pittsburgh Foundation to help build future audiences for the performing arts by supporting students who plan to become involved in some way with the performing arts. To be eligible students must demonstrate special aptitude or achievement in one or more of the performing arts as well as being a resident of All egheny County who also demonstrates financial need. Further information and application materials may be obtained in the S.F. GUIDANCE OFFICE. The deadline for submission of application for this scholarship is May 15, 2006 .
THE PITTSBURGH FOUNDATION, ANN N. DOSEN SERBIAN EDUCATIONAL FUND. This scholarship was created to provide scholarships for post-secondary education for students of Serbian descent. In order to apply for this scholarship, a student must be of Serbian background, plan to attend an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university, major in science or a science related field and complete an application and essay. National winners are recognized at ceremony in Washington , DC in the spring. SOUTH FAYETTE & NEIGHBORS MAGAZINE SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST The South Fayette & Neighbors Magazine will award a $500.00 scholarship, and a chance to become a magazine contributor, to the graduating South Fayette senior who best demonstrates a talent and passion for writing. SOUTH WEST COMMUNITIES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLASTIC SCHOLARSHIP (Greater Bridgeville Area): This scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded on a one-time only basis to a South Fayette H.S. senior to be used to pay tuition or education related expenses at a post secondary school. Applicants will be judged on basis of a required essay, community service involvement, GPA of at least 2.5, extracurricular activities and references.
