The
second grade program provides students with
an opportunity to develop and broaden their
basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics.
At
this grade level, students build on the basics
and expand their skills and knowledge through
special projects and class assignments.
Students
are expected to accomplish the assigned work
and be able to demonstrate the basic skills
taught in all subject areas.
Subjects
taught every day:

Language Arts with an emphasis on reading, grammar,
writing, spelling, and phonics
• Mathematics including problem solving
skills
Changes in Matter, Life Cycle of the Butterfly,
Dinosaurs, and the Solar System are topics addressed
in Science.
Social
Studies addresses rules and laws, map skills,
past and present, and geography.
Cursive
writing is introduced and developed throughout
the year.
Special
subjects include Art, Music, Arts Alive, Physical
Education, and Library.

students are to benefit from their school experience,
learning becomes a shared responsibility between
the student, the parent, and the teacher. The
