It was a close match-up for three quarters, but the Lady Lions took charge in the fourth quarter and didn’t look back in their matchup with Oakland Catholic in the 5A Girls’ Basketball Championship Game at the Petersen Events Center on Pitt’s campus Saturday, March 4, 2023.

The No. 1 seeded Lady Lions led by three points after the first quarter and trailed by two points at the half. Leading by six points after three quarters, the Lady Lions enjoyed a solid final quarter, eventually winning the title game 64-49.

The championship was the second straight title for South Fayette. The Lady Lions defeated Chartiers Valley in last year’s championship game.

The Lady Lions now enter the PIAA playoffs with a first-round game against West York on Saturday, March 11 at South Fayette High School at 4:30 p.m.
