EOY Parent/Guardian Message & Survey

June 5, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been a far from normal end of the school year with coping with the COVID-19 crisis.  We thank you for helping your students navigate their new learning experiences in an online environment.  Additionally, we thank you for the support that you have shown our teachers and administrators during this unprecedented, historic time.

Parent/Guardian Survey
At this moment, we want to take time to reflect and learn from the perspectives of the parents and guardians in our school community regarding our response to the COVID-19 crisis.  Please take a few minutes to complete this online survey.  The feedback we receive will help to inform us on how to improve our online learning program if we were to find ourselves in a similar situation in the future, as well as help us with planning for the fall. Please complete one survey for each child you have in the District.

Report Cards
Report cards for the Elementary School will be emailed to parents/guardians on June 15, 2020.  Final grades for all other buildings will be available June 15 through PowerSchool.

Fall Reopening
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)  issued guidance on school reopening this past Wednesday. The guidelines focused on planning and procedures “to promote safe operations.” Later this month, PDE is to release additional guidance that outlines teaching and learning and staff and student wellness. Schools are required to develop and submit a health and safety plan for in-person instruction or activities and to identify a pandemic coordinator or team to lead response efforts. We started this work well before the issuance of this guidance. In May, we formed an overarching committee for the reopening of our schools and have developed subcommittees of multiple stakeholders to prepare for multiple contingencies in the following areas: pandemic response, health and wellness, curriculum and instruction, technology, facilities, post-secondary transition, and operations. We will continue this work throughout the summer and will present a master plan that will be presented prior to school opening in August. Any plan will be guided from direction from PDE, CDC, and the Allegheny County Health Department.

Summer Hours
Beginning June 8, 2020, the District will operate on normal summer hours: Monday - Thursday, with all buildings open from 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The District will be closed Friday through Sunday.

I wish for everyone to have a fantastic summer!

Best regards,

Dr. Ken Lockette, Superintendent of Schools
