South Fayette High School STEM Team

SFHS STEM Team members, Sahishnu Hanumolu, Griffin Hurt, and Rohan Kandala, have been named one of 75 semi-finalists from across the United States in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition for their innovative idea to make an accessible crash-detection algorithm for mobile applications. The group hopes to ensure that such safety technology is readily available to drivers without pricey safety subscription services or expensive vehicles with similar technology. This solution will ensure that any driver has a fast, reliable response to any crash emergency.

For their efforts, the team has won $15,000 for South Fayette HS to use for the purchase of classroom supplies and technology and will compete in the next phase of the challenge for the chance to earn up to $65,000 and one of 10 finalists spots. The team will document their efforts in a project video and submit it to Samsung in March 2021. The team is mentored by SFHS STEM Advisor and English teacher, Mr. James Hausman. Congratulations to everyone involved!!!
