March 17 SFHS & Musical Update

South Fayette Township School District Families:

We thank you for your patience as we worked throughout the night and this morning to assess the situation inside the high school theatre following the activation of the sprinkler system last evening. It has been determined that the cause was a broken sprinkler head. There was never a fire in the high school last evening.

District staff, restoration crews, and electricians have spent hours meticulously checking every part of the theatre, including the flooring, lighting, and audio system. We needed to wait for their assessment and recommendations before we could provide any official updates.

Thankfully, the sets, props, costumes, and instruments for the high school’s production of “Crazy For You” were not damaged and are able to be used in the production.

As they say in the business: the show must go on, and it will. Our cast, musicians, crew, directors, and sponsors have worked so hard to prepare for this production, and we want our community to enjoy it. Last evening’s final and crucial dress rehearsal was obviously cut short. We want to provide the performers and musicians the opportunity to run through the show one last time, so the Friday, March 17 presentation will be postponed. Those who purchased tickets online for this evening’s performance will be issued a refund. The revised performance schedule will be:

Saturday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m.
Sunday, March 19 at 7 p.m.

Tickets for all three shows can be purchased online by visiting https://sfdrama.ticketleap.com/crazy-for-you/ or one hour prior to each show at the box office.

We cannot begin to express how proud we are of the “Crazy For You” cast, crew, musicians, directors, and staff and how they handled this unexpected situation. We invite everyone to celebrate them by attending one of this weekend’s performances.

We thank our high school families, educators, and staff for their quick and successful pivot to virtual learning today. In-person learning is scheduled to resume at South Fayette High School on Monday, March 20, 2023.

The district also extends its appreciation to our community’s first responders and restoration crews for their quick and essential assistance last evening and today.

Once again, we appreciate your patience, support, and encouragement. We look forward to seeing you at the show this weekend!
